Boiler and Heating Upgrades across Merseyside – Check Written Quotes
If your boiler is getting old and you live in Merseyside, we can put you in touch with Gas Safe registered heating engineers who modernise boilers and heating systems across the county. An upgrade is more than a boiler swap: the engineer checks whether a combi, system or regular boiler suits your household, then includes the controls, filter and system clean the new boiler needs to last.
Common Reasons for Heating Upgrades in Merseyside
Homes across Merseyside range from period properties with original pipework to post-war semis and newer estates, and many of their heating systems were installed long before current efficiency rules. Typical reasons for an upgrade include:
- Non-condensing boilers from the 1990s and early 2000s that waste gas
- Boilers whose spare parts are no longer made
- Hot water that can't keep up after a second bathroom or en suite is added
- Old gravity-fed systems with loft tanks that leak or freeze
- Controls limited to a mechanical timer and a single thermostat
- Repeated breakdowns every winter
What a Merseyside Heating Upgrade Can Include
- Combi boiler upgrades – a new high-efficiency combi with an approved efficiency measure
- System boiler and unvented cylinder – mains-pressure hot water for homes with several bathrooms
- Regular boiler replacement – keeping the existing tanks where that suits the property
- Combi conversions – removing loft tanks and the cylinder, and reconfiguring pipework
- New controls – programmable, smart or weather-compensating thermostats and TRVs
- System cleaning – power flushing or chemical cleaning with inhibitor
- Magnetic filters – fitted on the return pipe to protect the new boiler
- Gas pipe upsizing – where the existing supply is too small for a modern boiler
Merseyside Boiler Upgrade Prices
Quotes in Merseyside depend on the boiler type and brand, how much pipework changes, whether the flue stays in the same place and whether a cylinder is involved. Typical ranges are:
| Type of upgrade | Typical cost (inc. VAT) |
|---|---|
| Combi-to-combi with new controls and filter | £2,200 – £3,200 |
| Regular or system boiler, cylinder retained | £3,000 – £4,200 |
| Combi conversion | £3,800 – £5,000 |
| System boiler with new unvented cylinder | £4,200 – £5,500+ |

Building Regulations and Local Guidance in Merseyside
A new boiler is notifiable building work, but a Gas Safe registered engineer can self-certify it, so you rarely need to apply to building control yourself. If you live in a listed building or conservation area, a new flue position on a visible wall could need consent from the local planning authority. You can check local planning guidance on the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (boroughs) website.
Why Compare Upgrade Quotes With Us
- Gas Safe registered engineers working in parts of Merseyside
- Advice on the right boiler type, not just the same as before
- Written quotes listing boiler, controls, filter and cleaning
- Building regulations notification and warranty registration handled
- No-obligation quotes with no pressure to proceed
A careful upgrade starts with a check of hot water demand, flue route and system condition. The quote should state whether a cylinder, condensate drain, filter, inhibitor and controls are included, and who will commission the boiler.
Common questions from homeowners
Do you cover the whole of Merseyside?
Engineers in the network work in towns and villages across Merseyside, but availability depends on your postcode and the job. Use the form to request a match.
How do I know which boiler type suits my home?
It depends on how many bathrooms you have, how much hot water you use at once and your mains water pressure. An engineer will check these on a survey and explain whether a combi, system or regular boiler is the best fit.
How long will I be without heating during an upgrade?
A like-for-like combi upgrade usually takes one day. Conversions and new cylinders can take two to three days, and engineers normally restore heating and hot water at the end of each working day where possible.
Will my new boiler come with a warranty?
Yes. Most manufacturers offer five to ten years or more when the boiler is registered after installation. Warranties usually require an annual service and evidence that the system was cleaned and protected with inhibitor and a filter.
